A heavier buffer is often necessary to prevent bolt bounce, especially when using forced-reset–style triggers or safeties. The added mass slows bolt velocity and mitigates bolt bounce, improving feeding reliability and reducing premature hammer follow/bolt bounce in somewhat over-gassed rifles.
This buffer is only for use in carbine-length buffer tubes. It is weighted with two free-floating tungsten weights and one steel weight, which is intentional by design to help smooth recoil impulse and cycling behavior.
If you want to fine-tune the recoil impulse of your carbine and increase overall system control, the H2 buffer weight is an excellent upgrade—regardless of whether you are using an FRT or standard fire control group.
When an H2 Buffer Makes Sense
The H2 buffer is ideal for rifles that are slightly to moderately over-gassed, offering a balance between reliability and recoil control without being excessively heavy. It is often the most versatile upgrade for a wide range of AR-15 configurations.
Common use cases include:
-
Carbine- and mid-length gas systems in 5.56 NATO especially in factory rifles that tend to be over-gassed or under buffered
-
14.5"–16" barrels, where added buffer mass helps smooth cycling without risking short-stroking
-
Suppressed rifles using low- to moderate-backpressure suppressors
-
General-purpose carbines, where reliability across a wide range of ammunition is a priority
-
Rifles using forced-reset triggers or faster-cycling fire control components, where additional mass helps reduce bolt bounce without overcorrecting the system
In rifles that are heavily over-gassed, running very short barrels, or using high backpressure suppressors, an H3 buffer may be a better fit. The H2 buffer shines where balance is required—providing smoother cycling while maintaining a wider reliability window.

Made My FRT Run Great!
My rifle was running in two round burst, kind of like my life. Starting and stopping constantly but never really heading anywhere, but after upgrading my rifle with this H2 buffer, it runs perfectly! Feels like I fed my fire control group a Blue Rhino pill! The warm and fuzzy's havent stopped since.
