A heavier buffer is often necessary to prevent bolt bounce, especially when using forced-reset–style triggers or safeties. The added mass also helps slow bolt velocity, improving feeding reliability and reducing premature hammer follow in over-gassed rifles.
This buffer is only for use in carbine-length buffer tubes. It is weighted with three free-floating tungsten weights.
If you want to fine-tune the recoil impulse of your carbine and increase overall system control, the H3 buffer weight is an excellent upgrade. Regardless of whether you are using an FRT or not.
When an H3 Buffer Makes Sense
The H3 buffer is particularly well suited for rifles that tend to run over-gassed, including shorter barrel configurations and setups using high backpressure suppressors. In these systems, the increased buffer mass helps slow the cyclic rate, reduce excess bolt speed, and mitigate hammer follow/bolt bounce.
Common use cases include:

Short-barreled rifles (10.3"–12.5") in 5.56 NATO, where increased gas pressure and dwell time can lead to harsh recoil and accelerated wear especially when suppressed

Suppressed rifles in general, especially when using traditional baffle-style suppressors that increase backpressure

Over-gassed factory carbines, which often benefit from additional mass to smooth operation

Rifles using forced-reset triggers or rapid-cycling fire control components, where preventing bolt bounce is critical
In properly gassed systems or rifles running low-backpressure suppressors, an H3 buffer may not be necessary and an H2 may be a better fit.
